Extract from BULAWAYO WEEKLY REPORT :

WEEK ENDING FRIDAY 15th February 2008 :

As the national crisis deepens and affects ordinary people an extraordinary number of 77 people were considered for various kinds of help. 26 of these were referred through the office. Hospitalisation is now prohibitively expensive and the elderly live daily with the fear of falling or getting sick. Prices scream up and many count their money then go to the till with only one or two small items. Whether the forthcoming elections will improve our lot remains to be seen.

We have started a support group along with some training in counselling for the team. Our first meeting took place on Friday and was very well received. This will happen once a month.

The main task for this week was getting rent money to the private homes: mission accomplished 150 kilometres and one puncture from a pothole later. In addition several people were assessed, and some were reassessed to check the possibility of family support.

One pensioner ( an amputee ) is moving from a private home since his son (also an amputee) is moving to South Africa. Our field worker has been hard at work finding suitable accommodation for him. Unfortunately most residential homes are not equipped for people in wheelchairs so plans are being made for him to go to a flat ...

“Never think that God’s delays are God’s denials. Hold on, hold fast, hold out. Patience is genius.”

ZANE has no offices and employs only a small staff in the UK. There are no middlemen and there is no waste.
