HARARE REPORT

28 April – 2 May

We have had an amazing week here in Harare as HIFA performances have gone ahead despite several artistes dropping out due to the uncertainty in the country.

Individuals:

Most calls we get now from individuals are to do with the fact that they are struggling to find food. I saw **** on Wednesday last week and she has agreed to take on any new cases that we recommend to her, so we are contacting all our individuals who are not currently receiving a food parcel and offering it if we think it necessary. The money we give is mostly used for paying utility and other monthly expenses, but many of the old folk also use the money to buy extra food as the parcel does not really last the whole month. Buying cleaning materials and toiletries is also becoming a problem. We get vouchers from **** once a month but often find that there is nothing in the shop to spend it on.

MEDICAL:

Drugs continue to soar in price but so far **** has been able to keep finding them even though our local pharmacy has virtually nothing on the shelves – I bought the last packet of paracetamol in the shop last week and they did not know when they would get more.
